Senate Election Results

The Gustavus student body voted Sophomore Communications Studies Majors Danielle Cabrera and Matthew Timmons as Student Senate Co-presidents for the 2013-2014 academic year. Cabrera and Timmons won against team Michael Morimoto and Joe Thayer and team Eric Best and Eiler Henrickson, winning 43.4 percent of the votes cast in the election.

In preparation for their positions next year, the team will become familar with their co-presidential roles.

“This Thursday, we will have our first cabinet meeting, at which we will attend as Co-Presidents-elect. In the next week or so we plan on sitting down and talking with Dean of Students JoNes VanHecke and the current co-presidents. Within the coming weeks, applications for cabinet positions will be posted, and Dani and I will begin to construct our closest advisory team while setting our calendar for our term,” Timmons said.

Also on the ballot was a question addressing funds needed to proceed with plans for the Dive renovation. The increased student activities fee necessary for the renovation was not approved, with 52.6 percent voting no.

Campus Wi-Fi connectivity was assessed in the student survey as well. Differing levels of accessibility across campus brought this question to the ballot, and students were asked to write-in areas of low connectivity, so they could be assessed and improved.
