Forty-five years ago, Warren Beck ‘67 was attending classes in some of the same buildings we walk into every day.

On October 1st of this year an entirely new academic building was dedicated in his name after he donated sixteen million dollars to its construction.

Warren Beck is the President/Commercial R.E. Developer at Gebbert and Beck, Inc. and President at Galleria Hotel LLC.

Now, Warren Beck, along with his wife Donna, are serving as chairs of Campaign Gustavus, a fundraising project aiming to raise 150 million dollars over the next four years.

Beck’s favorite part of Gustavus has always been the community feeling. Despite his successful and powerful status now, Beck emphasizes that his motivation for his involvement at Gustavus comes from his love for the Gustavus community.

Warren said that his favorite part of working with Campaign Gustavus is “meeting new people that are interested and getting to work with them.”

Beck also said he decided to take a leadership role in the campaign because he saw the potential in the project.

“I believed in it when it began and I was committed to see it carried through.”

Beck is especially keen to working with the current students of Gustavus. “I would love to meet students now, no other buildings have been named for people that they can meet. I want students to say they’ve met the Becks.” Beck said.

While Beck was a student at Gustavus, he was an editor for the Gustavian Weekly his sophomore and junior year, a member of the Greys fraternity and sang in the Chapel choir.

It was while he was singing at Gustavus that he met his wife. Donna was sitting in the row ahead of him in the choir.

“I like being back on campus and interacting with today’s students,” Beck said. And as a former Gustavus student, Beck gives a bit of advice to the current students.

“Make the most of your time and don’t be afraid to stretch your mind. Make connections that will benefit you for the rest of your life.”
