Men’s athlete of the year: Doug Frey

The Gustavus Men’s Soccer team enjoyed another strong season, thanks in large part to Junior Middfielder Doug Frey, earning the honor of Men’s Athlete of the Year. Frey was undoubtedly the team’s most potent offensive threat, leading the team with eight goals and eight assists.

Frey compiled a total of 24 points in 18 games and placed sixth in the MIAC in scoring, doing so while playing 13 games off the bench. His impressive individual accomplishments and commitment to team philosophy earned him recognition as a 2010 MIAC All Conference Honorable Mention.

Team play comes natural to Frey and has been proven on and off the soccer pitch. Frey is a member of the Student Athlete Volunteer Educator program and is the co-president of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. Frey’s commitment to health education and volunteerism proves his commitment to leadership, and he has many fans looking forward to 2011.
