Sigur Ros’ted: a show to end all shows

A long with most students who had the opportunity to see Sigur Rós  (pronounced “si-ur rose”) this past Thursday, Sept. 25, I am still trying to process what I experienced. The concert, which was held in downtown Minneapolis at the Orpheum, was performed to a sold out crowd and exceeded any and every expectation that I could have ever had. On the way to the … Continue reading Sigur Ros’ted: a show to end all shows

First-year Elliot Herdina proves his worth as Gustavus’s wide receiver

According to First-year wide receiver Elliot Herdina, the Gustavus Gusties’ 27-19 football win against Coe College on Sep. 13 can be attributed to the Gusties’ great defensive performance-but he’s just being modest. If you asked any of the people in the audience at that game, they’d probably give most of the credit to Herdina. In his first collegiate game, he scored two of Gustavus’ three … Continue reading First-year Elliot Herdina proves his worth as Gustavus’s wide receiver

Professor Richard Leitch receives award

It is not often that a college can find a professor who perfectly matches the institution, but Gustavus has found this in Richard Leitch, this issue’s Gustie of the Week. As an Associate Professor of Political Science, Leitch has become a visible fixture in the campus community. An educator at Gustavus since 1996, Leitch teaches courses such as International Relations, Comparative Politics, Asian Politics, Environmental … Continue reading Professor Richard Leitch receives award

Sweating it out with The Sauna Society

If you were at the Student Involvement Fair last week, you may have noticed a single table with a large, plain banner lying across it. The banner read, “Join the Gustavus Sauna Society.” It might have been the simplicity of the display, or the energetic board members standing behind it, or just the mention of sauna, but the table was swarming with interested undergrads. By … Continue reading Sweating it out with The Sauna Society

Gustie of the Week: Lisa Brown takes a shot at the Olympic games

When I mentioned to a few friends of mine that I was going to interview fellow Gustie Lisa Brown, the first words that came flying out of their mouths were something like this: “Lisa…she’s hilarious!” followed closely by “she’s an amazing athlete; she went to the Olympic Trials for javelin throwing this year.” I had never met Lisa before, so I really had no idea … Continue reading Gustie of the Week: Lisa Brown takes a shot at the Olympic games

Tim Burton’s classic flick is a delightful nightmare

Nothing gets me in the mood for autumn like The Nightmare Before Christmas. And since fall is right at our doorstep, the release of a brand new, special edition of Tim Burton’s classic macabre masterpiece seems too good to be true. Thankfully, it is true. A few weeks ago, the film made its way to DVD for the first time in almost ten years, along … Continue reading Tim Burton’s classic flick is a delightful nightmare

Alaska never looked so good

First-year Chris Hall is an out-of-state student. Okay, so he is really out of state—even if he’s still in the United States. Although Alaska is well over three thousand miles away from campus, Gustavus is proud to house 11 full-time students from this state. “Alaska has every terrain you could ever want,” said Chris. “[There are] oceans, beautiful mountains, tundras up north and beautiful rivers.” … Continue reading Alaska never looked so good
