Women’s coach of the year: Jon Carlson

Leading the Gusties to their third MIAC Championship in four years, Women’s Swimming and Diving Head Coach Jon Carlson is the Women’s Coach of the Year for Gustavus athletics. The Gusties were able to defeat defending champion Carleton in order to reclaim the MIAC Championship.

During the course of the season, the Gusties broke three MIAC records, four meet records and 12 school records. Carlson’s team earned 22 All-Conference performances, with 10 different Gustavus swimmers receiving All-Conference honors.

The Gustavus Women’s Swimming and Diving team compiled 114 points at the 2010 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to finish in eighth place. The eighth place finish at the NCAA Championships was the best in the history of the program.

Carley Mosher led the Gusties with a seventh place finish in the 200m backstroke. The 400m free relay team of Mosher, Dajana Vidovic, Jonna Berry and Carrie Gunderson finished tenth at the NCAA Championships and broke the school record.

During Carlson’s tenure at Gustavus, the Gusties have won the MIAC Championship five times and placed in the top three in the MIAC for 11 straight years. Carlson has earned MIAC Coach of the Year twice including for the 2009-10 season and in 2002.

Carlson will look to the lead the Women’s Swimming and Diving team to consecutive MIAC titles next season with many returning standout performers from this season’s team.
