Mental Illness Doesn’t Carry a Gun

World Mental Health Awareness Day was held last Saturday and I celebrated by being mentally ill. That’s a bad joke, sorry. I’m mentally ill every day of the year, but I felt just a little bit more bitter about it on that day because simple “awareness” of mental illness isn’t a problem in our country. Our major news outlets and our politicians have no problem … Continue reading Mental Illness Doesn’t Carry a Gun

Columbus Day Shouldn’t Be a Holiday

Columbus Day: no parades, no parties, and depending on where you live, you may or may not get a day off of school. That being said, as campus safety states, 1029  … Continue reading Living in the Gustavus Bubble

Anonymity Online Continues to Cause Problems

The great Yik Yak debate refreshed itself once again this year. According to a campus-wide email sent out in late September, a student posted a threat to the app, Yik Yak, that read something along the lines of, “During this fire alarm would be the perfect time for a school shooting.” According to Carol Brewer, Director of Campus Safety, an alumni first noticed the post … Continue reading Anonymity Online Continues to Cause Problems
