Beginning on May 15 and ending on May 16, Gustavus will be hosting the eighth annual Thrill on the Hill Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. The tournament will host club teams from the Midwest area and Canada. The Gustavus Men’s team, The High, and the Gustavus Women’s team, The Outskirts, hope to see many Gustavus fans as well.

“I am excited for people to come and see that Ultimate is a fast-paced, competitive sport,” Sophomore Psychology Major and tournament co-coordinator Gregg Milbrath said. “Frisbee is a sport not a hobby.”

Though the tournament takes place after the official sectionals, the level of competition will not change, as evidenced by the number of teams taking part in the tournament. “We had to turn away two teams already this year,” Erik Huemiller, junior physics major and tournament co-coordinator said.

Since the tournament takes place at Gustavus, there will be a surplus of Gustavus athletes and alumni in the mix. Both men’s and women’s teams have been invited, B teams to play as well. “The B team is generally for people who are interested [in Frisbee], but can’t commit the time because of Lab conflicts or band conflicts or something,” Senior Biology Major and tournament co-coordinator Pat Gaetz said.

A team made up of Gustavus alumni called The Dudes will also be present at the tournament. “I’m really excited for the alumni game,” Huemiller said. “They have a lot of unique experience playing Ultimate here [at Gustavus] where it is so windy, which is something that a lot of people don’t have experience to. [The Dudes] have knowledge of that, so [the game] is super, super intense.”

Although the weekend will be pretty full, with several games taking place both on Saturday and Sunday, time for celebration and relaxation has been well planned out for Saturday night. A concert has been organized from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Johns Family Courtyard featuring campus bands, including Tyrannosaurs in F 14’s and Flash Bandango. “It’s just a fun activity for all of the teams and fans to get stoked and enjoy some crunchy grooves,” Gaetz said.

Matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and end at 5:00 p.m. with multiple matches taking place at one time. “There will be plenty of Frisbees going around,” Huemiller said.

The men’s teams will be playing on the practice soccer fields and the women’s teams will play on the old rugby pitch. Games will recommence at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Visit the team’s website for more information.
