Involvement Fair shows opportunties

Beginning Feb. 15 at 4:30 p.m. in Jackson Campus Center, the annual Spring Involvement Fair will take place. The Fair is a forum for students interested in extracurricular activities. A variety of student organizations will be present with displays and information about their clubs, with current members available for questions. The Fair is a great opportunity for students, especially younger students, to find interesting groups on campus and start getting involved.

“Students are settling back into the pattern of things and realizing they can balance academics with extracurriculars,” Senior Management Major and Student Activities Office Intern Adam Toppin said.

Over 40 campus groups have already signed up and will be present at the Involvement Fair, including sports teams such as lacrosse and rugby, political groups like the College Democrats and campus leaders such as Collegiate Fellows, Peer Assistants and Gustie Greeters. Some groups are close to electing new leaders, and getting more input from new and potential members can be a positive influence. Spring club sports will also be beginning shortly or have already begun.

“A lot of groups recruit new members at the Involvement Fair, and that’s one of the main benefits,” Toppin said.

The Involvement Fair offers students a panorama of what goes on outside of class at Gustavus. Club sports like ultimate frisbee and lacrosse attract a lot of support from students on campus.

The Involvement Fair is great for finding new players,” Junior Psychology Major Jonas Broccard said. “People don’t always know we have a team so it’s great for recruiting.”

Political groups like the College Republicans and Gustavus Adolphus College Democrats have also found many members at that Invovlement Fair. Groups such as the Gustavus Dentistry Club and the Accounting Club provide positive environments for career advancement. There are fraternities and sororities as well, among other community service groups.

“Whether it’s a team sport or something else, a lot of students are looking to do something extracurricular,” Toppin said. Whatever that may be, chances are it can be found at the Involvement Fair, Feb. 15 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Jackson Campus Center upper level.
