Shows to Binge-Watch Over Fall Break

Professional Fangirl- Katelyn Benschoter

In the wise words of Mariah Carey, It’s tiiimmmmeee! It is finally starting to feel like fall. The coffee shops have pumpkin syrup and kids are planning their Halloween costumes. It is time to break out the flannels, bundle with a cozy blanket, and watch some good seasonal media during Fall Break. One of my favorite parts of school breaks is being able to catch up on shows and movies while I am home. So, if you are pondering what to watch over this Fall Break, keep reading.

My first recommendation of shows to binge watch over Fall Break is an autumnal classic, Gilmore Girls. The show is the embodiment of all things cozy and comforting. The plot follows the close knit relationship between mother and daughter, Rory and Lorelai, as they navigate life together. The pair are polar opposites, Rory being a studious, Type A, organized daughter and Lorelai being quirky and frazzled. The two always find a way to balance each other out. The show is set in a fictional town of Stars Hollow, which is cute and quaint and seems like visiting would feel like a warm hug. The show has a very relaxed feel and is perfect to watch with friends, family, or even just alone with your cat. Additionally, the soundtrack of the show makes a perfect playlist for the fall with calm indie songs like “There She Goes” by the La’s being featured. A few of my favorite fall-specific episodes include “The Festival of Living Art” (Season 4, Episode 7), “You Jump, I Jump, Jack” (Season 5, Episode 7), and “Knit, People, Knit!” (Season 6, Episode 9). If you decide to indulge in the town of Stars Hollow over this Fall Break, you definitely will not be disappointed.

My next bingeworthy show recommendation for this Fall Break is if you are looking for something on the creepy side. Halloween is just around the corner after all, so this next show will help you get in the “spooky season” mood. That show is Something Very Bad is Going to Happen. But please trust me when I say that when you watch this show, something very good is going to happen instead. I previously have written an entire article dedicated to this show, and I think over Fall Break I will be re-binging it because it was just that good.

The show follows the bride-to-be, Rachel, and her fiance in the last few days before they marry. They head to her fiance Nicky’s family estate where the wedding will be held. Though as they arrive, Rachel becomes paralyzed by fear and anxiety that something terrible is going to happen on their wedding day. The show creates an incredible sense of tension and uses very inventive camera angles and techniques to instill a creepy vibe in the viewer. I love everything about this show, and it has remained one of my favorite things I have watched this year, so please take your fall break to binge it. It is only eight episodes!

The last show I recommend binging over Fall Break is very nostalgic for me. If you are looking for some drama, I recommend Pretty Little Liars. The show follows four friends who suddenly get mysterious messages from “A” after their best friend Allison disappears. This show has drama, mystery, and some insane 2010s outfits. This was one of my favorite shows when I was younger, and if this was the case for you when you were younger, I would highly recommend rewatching it with some old friends. I have been doing this lately, and it has been a blast. There are seven seasons of this show, so there is a lot to work through. But over fall break, here are a few of the must watch fall episodes: Season 2, Episode 13: “The First Secret,” Season 4, Episode 13: “Grave New World,” and Season 5, Episode 7: “The Silence of E. Lamb“.

Overall, you can not go wrong with any of these shows over this Fall Break. Any Fall Break will be well spent if you take some time to experience some of these shows, or even all the shows if you are feeling ambitious. Whether you are looking for a cozy night, something creepy, or some fun nostalgic drama, these shows have it all. I know I will be indulging in some good fall media this break, and I hope you do too. You have worked hard this semester, so take a break and unwind with these shows!
