RE: Interfaith Space

Recently, a collaborative effort by several departments and students created an inter-faith space on campus. Prior to this, there was no space on campus for general religious activity, neutral of all faiths but reserved specifically for spirituality.

The space is a huge step forward for the campus, and a recognition and show of respect for the numerous faiths practiced by Gusties. It is a usable space for religious activities, such as prayer and meditation, where there previously was no space on campus for such practice. We are excited for this space and the individuals and groups that are already using this space, such as the daily meditation at 10:00 a.m. on weekdays.

The inter-faith space has been open since Nov. 15, 2011. However, the inauguration for the space will be Dec. 6, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Diversity Center. It is a celebration of religion, inter-faith dialogue and the numerous areas of campus that have worked to create this space: the Dean of Students Office, the Student Senate Diversity Committee, the Diversity Center, the Religion Department, the Chaplain’s Office, the Center for Servant Leadership and the Student

Activities Office.

We as a committee are writing this to invite you, as a student on our great campus, to attend, so that we all can celebrate respect, acceptance and religion on campus. It is important that students of all faiths attend: it is a community space, one that all members of campus can use. We would love to see everyone attend.
