Fall Semester at a Glance for Fellow Gusties

Staff Writer- Emily Anderson

Welcome back Gusties! This fall semester is filled with lots of fun activities! Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, especially with the events we have coming up!!

Before we begin this super cool and important article, make sure you have lounge! This is the new app to organize campus activities and meet more people! It is how you can get tickets to various events, such as those planned by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) or other on-campus organizations. It is also your one-stop shop to learn about the different student clubs and organizations on campus, with frequent posts about events and meetings. (Read more about lounge on page 7)

Nobel Conference

On October 6 & 7th, Christ Chapel will host the 62nd annual Nobel Conference! This year is all about the Mississippi River. This is an event that features leading experts in a variety of disciplines to share their knowledge and experience on a chosen topic. It feels kind of like watching a TED talk. Many professors will give you these two days off of class, but expect to attend at least one talk. My favorite part of this conference is the panel discussion, where the experts get to answer questions from the audience and hear each other’s perspectives on the topic. Throughout this time, many Gusties, alumni, high school students, and others from the community will come together to celebrate cool discoveries on this topic!

Homecoming and Family Weekend

While looking a little different this year, October 10-11 is Homecoming and Family Weekend. Campus will have programming featuring sports, music, food, fun, and more. A couple favorite highlights include the football game against St. Olaf and the annual Homecoming rave! Stay tuned for more information coming soon from CAB on other fun events!

Sports

Many teams have already had a ton of fun games or meets, (see the sports section edited by my beautiful, gorgeous, stunning roommate Olivia White). With many of the students on campus participating in some sort of sports (including intramurals), there are fun games to watch for everyone! This fall, I am looking forward to watching our football team (especially after their recent win), soccer games, volleyball, and more! For sports ticketing for students, please go to the Hometown app to get your free annual pass!

Christmas in Christ Chapel

The first weekend in December features one of my favorite Gustavus traditions, Christmas in Christ Chapel (also known as CinCC). Come support your fellow Gusties as they get to make some really beautiful music in this truly incredible show. Tickets sell out super fast, so make sure you get them when they come out later this fall! Hearing “O Come All Ye Faithful,” a true Gustavus classic, is such a moving moment, as it connects the musicians to those of CinCC past!

Gustavus is truly a wonderful place to make connections, support others, and build community! I am so excited to try new things and go to these events and more!
