All are invited to join the Campus Activities Board’s (CAB) Saturday Night in Lund Roller Rave this Saturday, January 24, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will take place on the Lund Blue.

“Students can expect an evening of roller skating with friends to a groovy playlist, accompanied by free snacks and drinks,” CAB Executive Junior Linnea Noelder said. The event aims to be active, fun, and exciting. “You can expect a fun time and a way to relieve some stress,” First-year CAB executive Erick Das added.

No roller skating experience is needed: “For anyone who hasn’t gotten to roller skating before, it’s a great learning experience, too,” Noelder explained. In addition, the entire 2026 CAB board will be in full attendance, giving students a chance to meet all the new executives.

The Roller Rave is one of the first of many campus events organized by the 2026 CAB board this semester. Planning campus-wide events is a challenging, yet rewarding experience for CAB executives. “A lot goes into planning an event, and as the new CABbies are getting to see, there are many aspects that you have to include to make it all come together,” Noelder said. However, “getting to see Gusties enjoying themselves, connecting, and laughing is one of the heartiest feelings in the world,” Noelder said.

As a new CABbie, Das has enjoyed everything that goes into event-planning. “We always look forward to providing students at Gustavus with fun activities that give them a break from academic and life stress. It can be challenging sometimes with all the moving parts, but we have a great team here on the Campus Activities Board that makes sure things run smoothly.”

The new CAB board has also ushered in new Co-Presidents, Juniors Rae Holwerda and Mary Steffen. Both are seasoned three-year members of CAB who worked as Everyday Activities Co-Executives together two years ago. Steffen also previously held the Traditions Co-Executive position in 2025.

In these roles, Holwerda and Steffen have developed their creativity and leadership to deliver exciting events for Gusties. “During my time as an executive, I’ve planned a series of small-scale events in the Courtyard Café, all the way to bringing puppies to campus, and Mary and I planned a campus-wide scavenger hunt during Family Weekend!” Holwerda explained. Steffen also has experience planning large-scale events like the President’s Ball, Midnight Express, and Homecoming.

Steffen reflected on the transition to the Co-President position. “For me, becoming Co-President has allowed me to really level up in my skills as a leader. With the role, you act as a manager of sorts to the members of the board instead of planning your own individual events for your position,” Steffen said.

“You’re giving them the tools they need to succeed, and an executive and a student balancing CAB and life. Watching them plan their event and seeing them succeed has been rewarding because I know how much work and time they’ve put into planning it,” Holwerda added. “It’s been great to get to see each of the members work so hard to make sure the events are awesome, and I’m excited to see their events play out this semester!” Steffen echoed.

CAB is hard at work planning many spring events Gusties can look forward to, including Pysanka (Ukrainian Easter eggs), What’s Popping with CAB, and Guthrie trips. Noelder encourages Gusties to “look on the CAB Instagram for updates as well as the weekly emails. Keeping up with the updates can help Gusties stay involved!”

In the meantime, students are invited to attend the Roller Rave SNL this Saturday, January 24, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Lund Blue for roller skating, music, snacks, and drinks.
