The talk of the summer has been The Summer I Turned Pretty, and every Wednesday when the new episode drops, it is the talk of the week until next Wednesday! Discussion is mainly focused on the love triangle that follows the main characters. The question everyone asks is, are you team Jeremiah, Team Conrad, or are you team Belly?
If you’ve been watching the show or just go on TikTok every Wednesday to catch up with what is going on, you know that these two brothers love the same girl, and each have their own side of the fandom. On that topic, I’m not here writing only to talk about the show but to tell you why you should be Team Conrad and why he is the better brother and boyfriend.
I’ve been a team Conrad since I started reading the books, then I watched the show and became more team Conrad than before. In my eyes, Conrad is good for Belly and has loved her since they were kids. Although the ending is unclear, viewers still have many questions about which direction the show will take. The book ending? Or something different?
My hopeful ending is for Belly and Conrad to be married and live happily ever after, but I’ve also heard some fans say that at this point, they just want Belly to be alone. However, If you know Jenny Hann, you know that she probably will end up with Conrad (hopefully). The fanbase would be understandably heartbroken because (SPOILER ALERT!) in the books, Belly ends up with Conrad. So not only would she be upsetting the viewers but also the readers!
Now you may be thinking, “this is so basic, why would she write about this?” but with this being the end of the series it’s inspiring tons of conversations, online and in person. I can’t walk through my own dorm hall without seeing “Team Conrad” or “Team Jeremiah” polls on whiteboards. Safe to say it’s been on my mind.
You might think team Conrad is based (you’d be correct), but also take a look at the first few episodes. When Belly gets out of the car and she and Conrad lock eyes, you can see how much love they have for each other. Jeremiah doesn’t really look at Belly or see her in that way until the end of the first season, and then into the next season. Jeremiah might’ve cared for Belly when they were kids, but not in the same way Conrad did and does.
Is Conrad a little moody? Yes. Did his mother die? Yes. Let the man live! He is allowed to feel his feelings, just like Jeremiah felt his in Cabo.
Finally, I hope and manifest that Jenny Hann will do the best to follow the books and sprinkle some fairy dust into the ending. To all the watchers, I hope you enjoyed this week’s episode and fingers crossed for a good finale!
