If Antonio Banderas was actually a cat I think he’d be even sexier. Alas, Puss in his cute little cat-boots and hat depicts one of the world’s greatest lovers, or so he says in his opening monologue.

The amount of cartoon cats in this film is indeed a bit overwhelming, but for those kitten fanatics, you may find yourselves in a state of kitty-bliss. With a kitten-style stomp rhythm in the first ten minutes and countless close-ups of Puss’s irresistible green eyes, you’d think anyone would get hooked.

Puss in Boots combines a great many children’s fairy tales, or at least the characters therein, including Humpty Dumpty (played by Zack Galifianakis), Jack and Jill (Billy Bob Thorton and Amy Sedaris), and Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Humpty, a childhood friend of Puss, is out to get his hands on the magic beans and, in turn, the riches via the beanstalk and golden eggs.

The femme fatale, so to speak, is aptly named Kitty, a remarkably cute cat who falls for Puss. But her dazzlingly attractive feline features are not taken entirely for granted; she’s as fearsome as Puss, and equally quick on her paws.

With Jack and Jill in possession of the magical beans, we watch in lively anticipation to see if Puss, Kitty and Humpty make it up the beanstalk and back down again alive. Humpty and Puss, however, have a bit of a past and more than a little straightening out to do.

The tension is high here, folks, and even I didn’t know what to expect when those rascally cats went soaring up that sky borne beanstalk into the stratus where, apparently, your voice transforms into that which resembles having recently inhaled helium.

Ninety minutes of heart-pounding action in this cartoon-cat adventure. If you’re into that sort of thing, I imagine you’ve probably already viewed this masterpiece and have it readily available on an external hard drive or even as a shortcut on your desktop.

If you are not into such frivolities but still enjoy a time free from pain and suffering, you may give this flick a look, and find that cats aren’t so hard on the eyes. I give this movie three out of five stars.
