Coming Friday, March 9, 2012 at 7:00p.m. to our very own cafeteria is the one and only GAC Idol. Sponsored by Building Bridges, GAC Idol is a talent contest open to anyone with any kind of talent imaginable.
This year’s GAC Idol is being put on to create excitement for the Building Bridges Conference, “Unresolved Conflict: Remembering Our Forgotten History.” The focus of this student-lead conference is to “provide a rewarding opportunity to engage in important dialogue as Building Bridges places a spotlight on American Indian history and culture. In particular, we will discuss the impact of colonization on American Indians, past and present,” Senior Sociology and Anthropology and Political Science Major Irma Marquez said, who co-chairs Building Bridges.
The conference will take place on Saturday, March 10, and tickets are free for students at the SAO desk.
For anyone interested in competing in GAC Idol Auditions will be taking place in Alumni Hall on Saturday, February 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 19 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Building Bridges is currently tabling for those who wish to sign up for auditions.
A panel of three to four judges will narrow the field of finalists down, but in the end a live voting system will be used so students can choose who the winner is. There will be cash prizes for the top three finishers, and random prizes will be awarded to audience members throughout the night. In past years the Evelyn Young Dining Room has filled up quickly so students are encouraged to come as early as possible.
Following will be a get together in the Dive featuring karaoke, Buffalo Wild Wings and Cold Stone ice cream.
If you have any type of talent and enjoy performing, get to those auditions and maybe you can be up on the stage come March 9, 2012.
