Gustie Gymnastics Hosts NCAAs

Stella Anderson Moye-

Gustavus Gymnastics hosted the 2025 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships on March 22nd, and the excitement was palpable on campus. The meet has not been hosted here since 1999, and Gustie fans flocked to watch the cream of the crop, including a member of the Gustavus Gymnastics team: Senior Lili Guy. One of the prominent members of Gustavus Gymnastics history had family, friends, and supporters gathered in the Lund Athletic building to watch her compete.

Guy made her national debut on home territory, competing on the floor and on the vault. She competed in the fifth and sixth rotations of the events. Guy scored a 9.600 on floor, earning her a tie for 41st overall. Competing in vault, she took 39th overall with a 9.425. Over the course of the season, she has racked up records amongst accolades for her performance on the vault. Her highest score of the season was 9.775. This was among 5 other scores in her Senior year alone that rebroke her individual event record on vault. Not only does she take the title of the first-highest score in program history, but she also claims the second-highest and numerous others that fall into the top 10 of all time. Her season average of 9.639 earned her the title of WIAC all-conference, as well as a season average of 9.625 on floor. With her personal record on floor of 9.775, Guy has the fourth-highest score in program history in this event as well. 4 more of her floor scores from this season rank top 10 in history as well. In her final year, she made an everlasting mark on what it means to embody excellence in the Gustavus Gymnastics program history.

Guy is also a standout academic, living up to the title of student-athlete. At the national meet, she was recognized for her academic excellence in addition to her athletics. She picked up the title of NCGA Academic All-American, awarded to seniors who have maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher throughout their collegiate career. She was joined by fellow Senior teammates Lindsay Bangs, Adi Dack, Lily Horsch, Olivia Jahnke, and Marley Michaud.

Guy and her fellow teammates role-modeled dedication to the sport, and it is clear the impact they’ve had on the team. The results of the season show that the Gustavus Gymnastics team had a record-filled year. Some highlights are as follows: for the first time in history, they surpassed the 190 mark. Additionally, this was the first year they’ve posted a 48 on the vault and set the record of 48.025. The team also picked up a new beam record, posting a 48.300. In a meet against Simpson, they posted a team record of 190.275. In accompaniment to this score, they posted another score that ranks top 5 as a team in program history. In the WIAC conference, the team took seventh.

Guy has noted this about her athletic career at college, calling it the “icing on the cake to ending my gymnastics career. Coming back from an Achilles tear freshman year, I didn’t really know what the next three years would hold. The recovery process was challenging, and I struggled to regain confidence. I never would’ve imagined my senior season would turn out this way, making it so much more meaningful. Ending my career on a high note has been incredibly rewarding.” On the day of meets, she credits her success to a superstitious attitude about pre-meet traditions where she likes to “follow a very similar routine on meet days to feel focused and comfortable. At the same time, having fun with my teammates and letting loose at meets is just as important. Our team dynamic has also played a huge role in helping me stay present and to enjoy each moment. The support and energy from my team create a positive environment to help me stay calm and confident.” The team is clearly near and dear to her heart, and she said this about the dynamic of the team: “This season, our team culture has been built on support, connection, and a shared commitment to success. With a large group of incoming freshmen, us seniors took the time to invest in them, making sure everyone felt included and valued. We really are like a family; we celebrate all successes, push through challenges together, and always have each other’s backs. This close bond has played a huge role in our success this season, helping us work as a unit and achieve great things.” Congratulations to Lili Guy and the Gustavus Gymnastics team as a whole on a spectacular, record-setting end of season!
