Jenna Anderson-
There is one more chance to participate in one of the Center of Inclusive Excellence movie nights! Coraline is the spooky movie this week. Starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18th at the Center of Inclusive Excellence. You can come and get cozy, watch Coraline, and have some food!
Senior Lily Goloh is a student worker at the CIE. She and Senior Kekeli Kwawukume are the organizers and hosts of the CIE movie nights. Students who come to watch Coraline can expect “food: popcorn, candy, wings, pizza, drinks and trivia and prizes! As well as a good environment for relaxing and a good movie” Goloh said.
There have been two other movie nights at the CIE so far, Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus, that have had a great turnout.
Coraline is one of my personal favorite spooky movies. A children’s movie with an eerie twist, Coraline is a stop-motion animated film that blends fantasy with horror. The summary on IMDB says, “Wandering her rambling old house in her boring new town, an 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice.”
In Coraline’s other life with her “other mother” and “other father,” everyone has buttons for eyes. This movie is beautiful to watch, with the stop-motion world almost entirely made of clay. It also has unexpected twists and turns and is sure to send a chill down your spine.
The Center of Inclusive Excellence will be holding more events like this throughout the year. Goloh said, “In November and December, we will be hosting other events, an outside movie night and ice skating, among other things yet to be decided.” Even if you can’t make it to the movie night, keep an eye out for these events!
“Are you ready for a spine-tingling, hair-raising, bone-chilling good time?,” Goloh asked. If you dare, come to the Center for Inclusive Excellence to watch Coraline at 7:00 p.m. this Friday, October 18th.
