Soundslides Instructions

We are evaluating Soundslides for its ability to make photo slideshows. This is how you can make a basic slide show with the program. If you have more questions, feel free to look at the manual, or ask Jake or Tom.  The screenshots can be viewed as larger images – just click on them.

  1. firstFirst, launch the application.  You will want to select a “standard” slideshow, and will want to select the “full screen” option.  Click on “JPG” to add your JPG files to the show, and SND to add an MP3 file to the show.  Note that the JPGs should be in one folder, and you should select the folder. Now you should be ready to start building the slideshow.
  2. slidesAfter the photos have rendered, you will see the slides.  You can reorder them, and more on this screen.
  3. Once you have finished editing your show, you will want to change some things on the other tabs.
  4. slideinfo_detailsFirst, navigate to the “Slide Info” tab at the top of your Soundslides window.  On the “Details” tab, you will want to make captions for each photo.  You can use the next tab to add captions for the subsequent slides.
  5. slideinfo_movementNext, click on the “Movement” tab to control slide movement.  This feature requires an audio track.
  6. template_displayNext, click on the “Template” tab, and then on the “Display” tab.  Make sure the settings match the ones in the image, with exception to the length of each slide – feel free to play with that.  You may want to save these settings for future show.
  7. template_fontsNext, click on the “Fonts” tab.  Make sure that all of the selections match the ones in the image.  Note that the fonts should all be Verdana.  This is something you might have to change.
  8. Talk to the Web Editor before changing the Shell option.
  9. projectinfoClick on the “Project Info” tab.  Give the project a name.
  10. slidesGo back to the “Slides” tab.  You should be done!  You can click the “Test” button to view the show.  Once you are finished editing, click the “Export” button.  The program will make a “publish_to_web” folder in the project folder.  Send this folder as a zipped archive (right click the folder and select “Create archive of…” to make a zipped archive) to the Web Editor (weekly-webmaster@gustavus.edu), and you should be good to go.  Good job!  If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
